10 MIN WALK TO THE SAND
FIRST TIME HERE

North Bondi is Bondi Beach — the quieter northern end of the same crescent of sand, not a separate suburb somewhere down the coast.

WALK SOUTH along Campbell Parade and you're at the Pavilion, the promenade and the Icebergs in three to five minutes. Stay at the north end and you get the calmer water, the ocean pools, the grassy knoll at Biddigal Reserve and the whale lookout at Ben Buckler — with the crowds a few minutes away rather than outside your door.

In the apartment

WHAT'S PROVIDED
SLEEPING
Queen bedroom, plus a second bedroom with a single bed and a blow-up mattress. Ocean views from both. Hangers and wardrobe space in each room.
IN EACH BEDROOM
Built-in wardrobes, and a portable speaker for guests to use. Hair dryer in the bathroom. A portable heater in each bedroom, a fan in the main bedroom, and woollen blankets for cooler nights.
KITCHEN & LAUNDRY
Fully equipped kitchen with full stovetop and oven, and a washer and dryer in the apartment. Spare towels in the linen closet.
PRACTICAL
Wi-Fi, an in-apartment safe for passports and valuables, and a reserved off-street parking space. No air conditioning; the apartment sits high on the hill and the sea breeze does the work. It's a 1963 building with a small hot water tank, so showers are best spaced out.
OUTSIDE
Balcony with ocean and city views. Ten minutes' walk downhill to North Bondi beach, the ocean pools and the RSL.
FOR THE BEACH
Deck chairs and a beach tent in the cupboard — take them down to the sand.

Clifftops, beaches, rock pools and coastal parks. Comfortable shoes, water, and time for photos.

Hornby Lighthouse at South Head, Watsons Bay, Sydney

South Head & Hornby Lighthouse

A fine half-day from Watsons Bay; the 1 km heritage loop takes 30 to 60 minutes.

More walks. Federation Cliff Walk from Dover Heights to Watsons Bay past Macquarie Lighthouse; the gentle Hermitage Foreshore Track to Nielsen Park; The Gap an hour before sunset.

Aboriginal heritage. Clifftop rock engravings of whales and sea creatures on the North Bondi headland within the Bondi Golf & Diggers grounds, and at Marks Park on the Bondi to Tamarama headland. Keep to the paths; never walk on the carvings.

Surf, sand & the tower. Learn with Let's Go Surfing at the gentler north end, or watch the professionals: the lifeguards of TV's Bondi Rescue work from the famous tower on the sand. Day lockers at Bondi Pavilion; free showers along the promenade; swim between the flags.

Move & recover. Reformer classes at Fluidform Pilates North Bondi; yoga and reformer at BodyMindLife on Hall Street; Peaches Pilates on Bondi Road; infrared saunas at Nimbus Co; or do it the local way, laps and a sauna at the Icebergs pool. Nine clifftop holes at Bondi Golf & Diggers.

The art of Bondi. Aquabumps on Curlewis Street, where photographer Eugene Tan has shot Bondi at sunrise every day since 1999; and Twenty Twenty Six Gallery on O'Brien Street, opened by local painter Martine Emdur, whose luminous underwater canvases are pure Bondi. Bondi Pavilion adds a free gallery, the Story Room museum and a year-round theatre program.

Season by season. Whales cruise the headlands May to November; each July Bondi Festival brings an ice rink and the 25-metre Vista Ferris wheel to the beachfront; the City2Surf pours tens of thousands of runners down to the beach each August, with the Sydney Marathon following in the city in September; Sculpture by the Sea lines the coastal walk from late October; the Bondi to Bronte ocean swim dives in each December; Christmas Day on the sand is a Bondi rite; and on Boxing Day the Sydney to Hobart fleet charges down the coast, best watched from South Head and the Dover Heights clifftops.

Markets & shops. Bondi Markets, farmers on Saturdays, vintage and designers on Sundays; Gertrude & Alice bookshop-cafe; Gould Street boutiques. Prepaid SIMs from supermarkets on Campbell Parade; carrier stores at Westfield Bondi Junction.

An easy day trip. Bus 380 to Watsons Bay, walk South Head to the lighthouse and The Gap, a long lunch by the wharf, then the ferry back to Circular Quay past the Opera House.

Questions, answered

GOOD TO KNOW
Is North Bondi the same as Bondi Beach?
Yes — North Bondi is the northern end of Bondi Beach itself, not a different beach. It's three to five minutes' walk along Campbell Parade to the Pavilion and the main promenade, and the apartment is about ten minutes' walk downhill to the sand at the north end, where the water is calmer and the ocean pools are.
What is there to do in Bondi?
Swim between the flags, walk the coast to Coogee, do laps at the ocean pools, learn to surf, browse the weekend markets and the galleries. Winter brings the festival ice rink and Ferris wheel; spring brings Sculpture by the Sea. Our full list.
Where should we eat?
Harry's for brunch, Raw Bar for sushi, North Bondi Fish for seafood with the view, the RSL for value, Anita for gelato. The shortlist.
When is whale season?
May to November from the headlands; Ben Buckler and Marks Park are the best free lookouts.
Beds, parking and space?
Sleeps four: a queen bedroom, and a second bedroom with a single bed plus a blow-up mattress. Views from every room, and a reserved off-street parking space. Self check-in via key safe from 3 pm, checkout by 10 am.
Getting around without a car?
Easy. Buses stop at the door: the 379, 380 and 333 run to the beach one way and Bondi Junction the other, where trains reach the city in about 10 minutes. Tap on with any contactless card or phone; cash is not accepted on board. Uber and taxis pick up easily on Military Road. Live times at transportnsw.info.
Groceries and essentials?
Woolworths Metro and IGA on Campbell Parade, Harris Farm on Hall Street, and chemists on Campbell Parade and Hall Street. Westfield Bondi Junction, 10 minutes by bus, has everything else, including late-night supermarkets.
Where are the arrival details?
